We are proud to announce that Closed Loop Fashion’s Indonesian case study has been featured in the latest Upstream Circularity Playbook, an important resource developed by Global Fashion Agenda and supported by the H&M Foundation and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). The textile industry is still in the early stages of exploring circular economy practices, with ongoing piloting and research & development to find effective strategies and business models for reducing waste and maximizing resource efficiency.
This playbook celebrates groundbreaking efforts by industry leaders who are piloting and testing innovative circularity initiatives in textile producing regions globally. It offers a wide array of real world examples, showcasing how efforts in post-industrial textile waste segregation, digital traceability, and the integration of recycled materials into new products can transform textile waste and help build the circular supply chains of the future. The playbook provides inspiration for new and existing players who are interested to tap into this emerging new textiles economy.
Our inclusion in the Playbook shows our ongoing efforts in the emerging field of circularity within the textile industry. As the only Indonesian case study featured, we share our findings on how circularity is taking shape in the region. Standardized textile waste management is essential for quantifying waste, optimizing recycling processes, and reducing dependence on virgin resources. To address this, Closed Loop Fashion has developed the only dedicated industry standard for textile waste management, featuring a comprehensive methodology that assesses factory practices, defines corrective action plans, and builds capacity to improve waste handling.
As a consortium partner of the Circular Fashion Partnership (CFP) Indonesia, Closed Loop Fashion will apply this standard to assess and support over 30 manufacturers during 2025. This effort aims to properly manage over 9,000 metric tonnes of post-industrial textile waste for recycling, paving the way for scalable solutions and significant environmental impact.
The case studies featured in this playbook demonstrate the difficulties of transitioning into circular economy business models and also the success stories in a variety of regions. Collaboration and knowledge sharing are key factors to overcome the challenges and the playbook aims to facilitate this.
