Developing a National Circular Economy Strategy for the textile sector

United Nations Development Programme supporting Indonesia in developing a national circular economy strategy for the textile sector

Closed Loop Fashion has been supporting the United Nations Development Programme UNDP in the first project phase of Developing a National Circular Economy Strategy for Indonesia’s textile sector as one of the first Asian countries to implement Circular Economy principles into their legislation.

A National Circular Economy Strategy will provide the general framework to develop, prioritize and implement the enabling politics, platforms and initiatives necessary to accelerate a transition to a circular economy in Indonesia.

The first phase started with identifying the key opportunities for potential economic, environmental and social benefits.

An Inception workshop with the industries key stakeholders from government and private sector was conducted, to jointly prioritize on key levers to capture the opportunities and how to overcome specific barriers to accelerate the circular economy.

The project is initiated by the UNDP in cooperation with Bappenas and supported by the Government of Denmark and conducted by several technical advisors.
